As a continuation of my previous post I want to spout off on my favourite multi-platform program. This is a closed source program called pro-engineer and it is a 3d cad program. It would have to be the best one I have seen and the price reflects it:) Anyway I am not here to flog a product so if you want to learn more then go to and see for yourself.

In addition to enabling live migration on the host, the VMs themselves must be configured in such a way that each host can access all of the VMs' assets. What I am going to ramble on about is how to install it under linux. I have installed this program under several versions of linux including my own and have had no problems even though the versions were not certified. Things you will need. The program of course. A licensed version that you or your company has bought. Don't support piracy, support open source. Of course the version you use has to be the linux edition.

I have installed both version 2 and 3 successfully. A computer, preferably a high end one as 3d is a hog on resources, with your favourite linux distribution. Necessary programs. To avoid errors on installing you need to have the following programs installed.

These may or may not be installed by default by you distribution buts its better to be safe than sorry so please check. Portmapper (It uses rpc for license verification) OpenMotif (it uses libXm.so.3) csh (used by the setup program) X (Duh!) Installation Stick the pro-engineer CD in the cdrom and mount it.

Pro E Wildfire 5.0 Crack 64 Bit

Under a console window from the mount directory run the setup script. This will start the installation and will ask you several questions about where you want to install it, where the license is etc. They are pretty self explanatory so there is no need to go into details. You will come to a screen where it will ask for 'optional configuration steps'. Here you can chose to 'Create links to product startup commands'. Before you do that make sure you have an empty directory created for those links to go into as there are a lot of them. After it has finished installing you may see some error messages in the console window about not being able to open some files.

You don't need to worry about them. The program will work fine. After you have exited the installer go to the directory you created for the links, run the proe script and enjoy a professional 3d cad program. That's about all there is to it. It is a very well designed program and there are none of the problems that are normally associated with installing multi-platform programs (get the hint oracle?) and as an added bonus the linux version works approximately twenty percent faster than its windows counterpart.

This I have personally verified. 'Hello Locutus, hello everybody! If I just run proe from a console (Terminal) or by a click (it makes no difference) then just a small empty Window opens with the caption: 'UI settings'. If then I would type 'mwm' in the Terminal, then Pro/Wildfire 2.0 starts immediately after the launch of mwm environment, it means its like Pro/E waited just for it. There are just no Error messages. But it would just be more comfortable to work in the base KDE environment and not some other UNIX-like platform atop of it.Cheers'.

'Hello Locutus,I do not have enough space for another Linux version but I have installed Beryl Window manager. After I carefully played with the settings therein I could start proe as well without mwm.But beryl can be dangerous, because many people have had the problem of the white cube, where You can see nothing but white and lose access to Your computer.I have noticed that Pro/Engineer Wildfire does not like extra effects like Desktop cube and so on.After all, I can say that this Pro/Engineer start problem depends on the Window manager, you use.' 'Locutus,Thanks for the quick response, I know trying Fedora 6 was going to be a shot in the dark. I was successful in getting all the dependencies installed and the PTC install went great. Installed all the correct folders, found CD2 got to 67% and the error for.tgz files came up. I closed the installation and was able to run from command line to shutdown.

When I run the command to start it fails, I have looked into the log files with no luck. If possible could you list the commands you recommend to start and stop the service, I would like to see what you recommend since I am using what PTC recommends and also any ideas on what I should look for in the log files to see what the problem is. Thanks again for any insist on this issue, I am very close to getting this to work and would be more then happy to write something up for Fedora users if I get pass this bump.

'Hi Locutus,Thanks for the response and unfortunately I am not at the office that is running it right now, I will be there tomorrow and I can give you more and accurate information then. What I remember is the PTC server installation stops at 67% then the.tgz errors pop up and when I click OK on the error message the toolbar stays at 67% and I get a message that completion finished successfully. I believe everything gets installed - all the scripts and variables and if I run the command (from PTC) /filepath to PTC (top of my head cannot remember exactly) shutdown I get are you sure you want to stop y or n and type y and states service shutdown. If I run /filepath/startup script I get an error message and view the logs. Again, I can get you more specific information on the log error tomorrow morning. Also found a command from flexlm to start the services: lmgrd -c licensefilelist -L +debuglogpath have you seen this or tried?

Thanks again -Todd'. 'Locutus,I saw the same exact messages on my server as you listed and thought it was not working. I am in front of the machine, reinstalled PTC software, ran stop and start and works without a problem. Just to let you and anyone else know I am running a Dell Poweredge 1900 dual core with Fedora Core 6 64bit in which I had to install all the 32 bit librarys and motif to get this to work probably. Again thank you for all your help and if anyone needs a step by step on how I got this to work let me know and I will be glad to share my experience.Todd'. 'Locutus,Thanks for all your help so far, now I have a new problem and/or question and was wondering if you had any suggestions. We setup a Samba/LDAP PDC over the weekend on the server the hosts the license for Pro E and now the clients Proe has an error (96) that it cannot find the license server.

I looked into the network settings and host files and the proper name is being used. I even reinstalled the license server on the machine and it finds the correct name to the server. Any suggestions or do you need more information. The only thing I have not done yet is reboot the server not sure if this would help??Thank you - Todd'.

'Hi everybody,I totaly forgot about this tread and that I'm trying to install Pro/E under linux again, I googled it. LOLThanks goes to everybody for working on this. Locutus thank you for this blogg.Anyway, I installed now Suse 10.2 and still having trouble installing Wildfire 3 on it.

How To Install Pro E Without Host Id

It basically goes to Disk 2 and at 65% it tells me that I can't extract proe20.tgz (file name is something like that). I go on CD and I can extract it with no problems. So, the file is not faulty. When I look into install script I can see that is trying to extract whole bunch of.tgz files. If I look in the install location I can see that no files are extracted. Yes, I can extract them manually but that is long and painfull process.I am in CSH shell.Any body has any idea??Thanks,Dan'.

'ok, not really sure why this worked, but removing the lesstif RPM that supplied the libXm.so.3 and installing the openmotif RPM from motifzone seemed to at least let me begin the installation process, although i did run into an error message at about 86087% complete mentioning errors reading some source tar archives. FInally got the install done, and have some proe startup errors complaining about rpcbind (needed to restart rpcbind differently). And error about enUS.URF-8 language not being supported, but finally got things going.'

'@Locutus: thaks a lot for all this info, this a great howto.I just installed pro engineer wildfire 3 on kubuntu 7.1 and everything whent ok during the installation, but when i open proe it will try to start but there is a message: Your chosen language 'enUS.UTF-8' is based on Unicode, which this version of Pro/Engineer does not use. Pro/Engineer will shut down; please restart with a language that does not contain the string '.utf' or '.UTF'. 'AWESOME!!!Thanks a lot, it works now.I only have a couple of thingsI don't know exactly how to create the script to make all of these work.? Could you help me with it?and the last thing is, proe is now up and running, and i can as far as I try, use everything, but i have some kind of delay while zooming or moving the part. It does not work propertly. I have a graphics card: nvida geforce 6600 go 128mb, and the nvidia driver installed. Maibe is something in the settings.??

Any clue?again thanks a lot.' The script works perfect.I still can't get proe to work smooth while spinning or zooming a part, I've try a lot of different setting for it, but it will not show me the part moving (in real time), in other words, i have the part in one position, and I press the scroll button to spin it, but i will only see the initial position an the last one after i release the button. Proe so far works fine like it is but still. I don't know it would be better if this issue could be fixed. Any ideas why.Anyways your help has been very importat, thanks.' 'This is my xorg.configi got 'direct rendering: yes'I'm using the driver form the restricted drivers manager of kubuntu, i don't know how to see which version of it i have installed???

But i remember it is somthing 100.xxx. 'hi so i got a couple of things.1. To solve the language issue, Locutus, the lproe.sh script worked fine, but I went a bit further. So this is what i did. I installed the links (shorcuts) for proe, there is one called 'proe', so open it with a text editor (you have to be root for this) and after the first line:#!/bin/csh -fpaste the following lines:#lines added to change in the environment the LANG from enUS.utf8#.utf are not supported by proeset lang='English'setenv LANG $langthis way you just have to click on the proe link.2. I also have the problem with the license and my host id, proe will pick what ever it wants every time I change my internet connection, i don't know if there is a better way of solving this, but i just have different license files for each scenario. Is there a way to fix the host id?3.

Finally, Locotus, i've been unable to fix the graphics issue, the software works a lot faster than in windows, but still i can not get it to show me the part while moving or zooming, i can only see the initial and final state. It would be nice to fix this. Anyways proe is amazing (especially under linux).thanks'. 'After a troubles some start I have been spending a HUGE amount of time playing with Wildfire 3. Thanks to some great help here on this site. Now it is time to get back to work. I created a format with tables on it for my part.

Now when I go to make a new drawing I select new drawing empty with format select my format. Cyberlink powerdirector 16 free download. Every thing is great, but I can not change the tolerance type from as is. I want the semestric option but it is all grayed out. Any ideas why? Thanks again for all your helpSK'.

'I have done with the method to install Wildfire 3.0 M080 in my Ubuntu gutsy(7.10) AMD64 System. The installation went well, but when I run the software by:cd /home/./WorkingLANG=EN/usr/local/ptc/proeWildfire3.0/bin/proe1I've got an error:setenv: Too many arguments. And about 2 minutes later it gives me another warning: WARNING: Name Server is shutting down due to timeout reached. But the software of this version goes very well in gutsy i386 version.I want to know how to deal with the problem. Thanks very much!' 'Hi Locutus.I am a mechanical engineer who needs to use a 3d CAD to project/analyze mechanisms. So far i have been using W@#%.?Z, but i intend to shift to Linux. The problem is that Pro/Engineer does not start under OpenSuse 10.1, SLES 10.0, or SLES 10.0 SP1, unless i am connected to the internet.Install went without problem, i configured wildfire2 to use a node locked license. If I am connected to the web, i can use it w/o problems. But if i am not. As soon as i launch /usr/local/ptc/./bin/proe1 in a shell, it displays a huge amount of messages about licenses uncounted.

And after bringing ProE gui up, it states that the product is not licensed. That is strange since i have installed ProE wf2 in a desktop PC w/o internet connection under Linux Fedora Core 4, and it always ran like a charm.what i ask you is:1. Is there any logical explanation for this erratic behavior?2. Are there any major incompatibility issues between Pro-E wf2 and Linux Fedora Core 5, or FC7 or FC8?3.

Pro Engineer Wildfire 4.0 Download

Is it to expect the same behavior that i observe with SLED 10/OpenSuse 10.1/SLED 10 SP1 with OpenSuse 10.2/OpenSuse 10.3.?as you may have noticed, my choice of OSes is rather narrow. I have an ASUS F3Jr laptop, and i must fit in other engineering software like MATLAB, ANSYS, ABAQUS.Thanks in advance for your time.Alexandre'. 'Hi again.:-(The issue is a bit more complex than i thoght. But i think that i am getting it.:Yesterday i had just turned off the radio switch of the laptop, but since DHCP had already started, there was no prob.after i rebooted, i wante to use ProE, but no chance.:-(I have to start DHCP services with the NIC whose MAC that the license is configured to use. If I am connecte, no prob. 'Ok, so let's see:The newz is that I made a fresh install of OpenSuse 10.2 in an external HDD connected to my laptop. Everything worked out of the box.

I installed ProE wf2, and it performed good: the install GUI showed correctly the MAC of my wired ethernet, i Locked to the corresponding license. Started proe1 script.alright.The prob is that Abaqus 6.7 won't install in OpenSuse 10.2.:-(.in OS 10.1, i can analyze, but i cannot design, in OS 10.2, i can design, but i cannot analyze.did not try with OS 10.3 yet.BUT, as far as i know, the PORTMAP service is OpenSuse 10.1, SLED 10.0 and SLED 10.0 SP1 is buggy, read it in some forum a while ago, check it.Think it may have something to do with the GUI of ProE installer never showing the MAC of wired ethernet, if i run it under the SLED's or OpenSuse 10.1, it shows a weird number like 00-00-00-d0-01-F7. Something i never saw in the PC., unless i have an active connection. This is quite stupid.:-(One intriguing feature is that the install GUI of ProE wf2, ALWAYS acknowleged the wired ethernet MAC under Novell Suse 10.0, OpenSuse 10.2, Fedora Core 4 and RHEL 4.0, but NEVER reckoned the same MAC under the SLED's, or OpenSuse 10.1.Guell i will have to get back to Novell Suse 10.0, that is IF i want to have FEA analysis available in my laptop, in case OpenSuse 10.3, does not accept ABAQUS 6.7 and/or ProE wf2.' 'Hi everybody.:-)Last weekend tried to 'awake' abaqus in OpenSuse 10.2, without chance, not even w/ install flags like./setup -nosystemcheck.:-(.Its a pitty, since Pro/E works fine in OpenSuse 10.2.Made a fresh install of OpenSuse 10.1 in an external HD, OS reckoned my wireless card, and ignored my ethernet; installed ProE, in the install GUI, the PTCHOSTID shown was nothing that i know from my system: neither wireless, nor ethernet.; didn't proceed further. 'Hi there. Finally (!) found some courage to install Ubuntu 7.10 in my PC.This is a weird distro. Not bad, just.

Weird, no root account, no rpm support, in Fedoras, RedHats, CentOS, or SuSEs, if one wants to install stuff, just logs as root, and does what one has to do. In Ubuntu, well that is a whole different story.Gud newz is that the distro reckoned the hardware out of the box. Now, to the hard (.i bet.:-( ) stuff.-trying to install ProEngineer 3 m80, Ansys Multiphysics 10.0, Abaqus 6.7.1, CFX 10.0, and the Fluent CFD codes over this distro.Hope i can have good news about ProEngineer tomorrow.:-)'. 'News.:- Good and Bad.Think that i partialy solved the prob with ProE wf 3:Here's how it went:1.Picked libXm.so3 from Ansys and symlinked it into /lib3.Started install script, complained about libgtk stuff, so, used synaptic to install all gtk related libs.3.Started installing (wireless was on, important detail) ProE, locked to wireless MAC, (the one shown as PTCHOSTID in the install gui) and installed.4.One more try with ProE, complained about not being able to start RPC, so, remembered of the begining of this blog, and installed PORTMAP from Synaptic.5. Created a wrapper script using export LANG=ENUS, launched ProE, and all went fine.

Finally, at least till then.6. At home, away from wireless AP from work, tried to start ProE. Wouldn't start7.Checked w/ PTCHOSTID script in a shell, several times, at each time the Hostid shown varied in almost a random fashion.8.Changed /etc/hosts the line127.0.0.1 Localhost.localdomainto127.0.0.1 Localhost.localdomain iskandharand changed the lines at /etc/nsswitch.conf to terminate all in 'files'9. Tried again with PTCHOSTID script, same behavior.10. 'I DID ITTTT.:-)This time i made it.The key difference was.:After having installed Ubuntu, i changed my network connection configuration so that my ethernet would NOT be in roaming mode, configured it to use DHCP.After having solved the libXm.so.3 stuff, the glx libs, the Portmap service and the shells all actualized with synaptics, i made a fresh install of ProE, the gui locked to my ethernet MAC as it should, the install of ProE wf3 m80 proceeded till 100%, built the wrapper script to export LANG=ENUS, and it worked fine.I have ProE installed and i can use it, wether i am connected or not. And i didn't lose my wireless connection. And more, i found the pattern in my action that allowed me to make a successful install. Thanks for all your help man.:-)W/&%#@Z is a tiny step away from being wiped out of my HDD FOR EVER.:-D, do you beleive that XP crapware keeps pulling all kinds of autorun.inf and kinky exes to my root partition out of the blue.?!Is this what i was forced to pay for when i bought this laptop.?!Any help that might be given to help ppl get rid MicroShit is welcome.:- I only have to fix that Abaqus thing before i do it. But i will do it.:-)Once Again thanks.:-)Alex'.

'Anyhow, one thing still puzzles me.:- I have this usb HDD that i use to make experiments with different distros without nessing around with my laptop's hdd;I made another install of OpenSuse 10.1 in this Usb Hdd, tried to repeat what i did with ubuntu, that is logic to do, set my wireless in roaming mode, to start on hotplug, set my ethernet to start at boot time, so that the Pro/E would always 'see' my ethernet, exactly what i did in Ubuntu, but in another distro.man, no chance. Each time i launched the install script, the ptchostid would be different, a perfect random walk. This is absolutely illogical, and i haven't tried yet, but i guess the same behavior is to be seen in SLED 10, SLED 10 SP1, and OpenSuse 10.3.they only see the MAC if i am connected.do you have any logical explanation to that.?The RedHat clones, Fedoras, CenOS, and Scientific Linux, all behave normally.the only Suse that behaves normal is Novell Suse 10.0.:-( Strange isn't it.?'

'Well, I guess I solved the Abaqus thing also, which makes Ubuntu my distro for engineering work.:-)Now for one more question. What will happen to us many Thousands of Ubuntu users when canonical will stop supporting Ubuntu 7.10 by the end of 2009?Will Synaptic still function? Will there still be repositories where to fetch libraries and stuff?I have only managed to put Pro/Engineer working after updating my gtk libs, and i had to do it w/ synaptics, after 2009 will I still be able to do it.?Alex'. 'Guys,Regarding ProE not being supported on Linux, I have heard that NX runs fine with Linux, along with Catia.Have tried both & have worked with NX4 before - it really is a very good CAE package & has massive functionality, is much easier to use than Catia & almost as easy as Solidworks. However, ProE is still going to be supported on Solaris & as 10 is based on Linux, am wonderingh if it will still run. I am going to be receiving a trial CD for WF4 for Solaris & installing OpenSolaris or Nexenta on a machine very soon to see if it works. This way, even though you don't get the huge software options that you get in Linux (although I believe that Nexenta uses APT & is a hybrid between Ubuntu & OpenSolaris), at least you won't have to run on that other OS we all love to hate. Will let you know how it goes, but if someone already has tried it, feedback of experience would be very helpful.' 'maybe reviving a very old topic, but still.Trying to get ProE 3.0 working on (K-)ubuntu 10.04, with a local node-locked license key, I was always met with the error 'License request failed for feature PROEDDiTy: -9: invalid host', followed shortly after by an endless series of 'RPC server is unavailable' errors. 'Thanks for you comment (and for the helpful blog post, would have saved me a lot of time, had I already looked for it during the installation process;) ).

You are right, there is definitely a lot confusion in my comment! These things are all very new to me.I'm not using a license server, but just a single license file which is located on my computer.

Nevertheless, ProE seems to make some RPC requests in order to find the license. I have not yet been able to get ProE to use the ethernet card, is this possible when I'm not using this interface (I'm never connected by cable). When the wifi is not configured, the ptchostid program returns a different hostid, each time I run it, and it's never a valid mac address (starts with E0.). When wifi is configured, ptchostid returns my wifi adapter's mac address.Let me also clarify: running rpcbind instead of portmap, solves the problem. Then, ProE runs just fine. I just don't know why this works. You said ip addresses wouldn't matter, but isn't it possible that the license software used by ProE (it seems to be 'Flexlm') makes an RPC to the hostname (in my case ProE detects 'HostName.fritz.box', which resolves to 192.168.178.x, not 127.0.0.1).I have found a file /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent.net.rules, listing my network devices. Don't know what to do with it yet, though.:)'.

'Just a little update.

Meanwhile I discovered that the problem wasn't configuration of portmap, but simply that portmap wasn't running at all (ok, sounds stupid, but on my other ubuntu machine - running an older version, installing portmap also configured the service to run at boot time, so I didn't think that this might have changed). Starting portmap manually solves the problems as well. Now I need to find out how to make portmap start at boot in ubuntu. The licensing software still refuses to 'see' my ethernet card, even though it's listed as 'eth0' on running ifconfig. Don't know what causes this. (Not that using the wifi adapter is wrong, but it would be nice to understand why the other card doesn't work).'
